International Digital Emmy Awards at MIPTV 2009

Reed MIDEM and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (I.A.T.A.S.) announced the launch of the fourth International Digital Emmy Awards (I.D.E.A.), to take place at MIPTV (March 30-April 3, 2009 Cannes, France). The call for entries runs until January 12, 2009.

The International Digital Emmy Awards are recognizing excellence in content created and designed for viewer interaction and/or delivery on a digital platform (i.e. interactive TV, mobile, internet, etc.) originating outside of the United States.

50th Anniversary CLIO Awards Festival

The CLIO Awards, honoring creative excellence and innovation in the advertising industry, will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in Las Vegas in May 2009. This renewed vision of the 2009 CLIO's will highlight the most cutting-edge and powerful accomplishments in the industry with five new and distinct award shows.

Applications for 2009 Student Academy Awards Now Available

Applications for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 36th Student Academy Awards competition are now available. The Student Academy Awards is a national annual competition designed to recognize and encourage promising new filmmakers.

Applications and a complete list of rules are available online at www.oscars.org/saa. All entry forms for the 2009 Student Academy Awards must be submitted electronically. Additionally, filmmakers must send a DVD of their film and a hard copy of their signed application to the appropriate regional coordinator.

3rd ELAN Awards Puts Out Worldwide Call For Judges

The ELANs officially put out their call to the entire world for judges to the media and industry professionals in video games, animation and visual effects. Anyone from within these industries who wish to preside over the selection of the final nominees and winners of the 3rd Annual ELANS is invited to apply.

The Board of Advisors for the 3rd Annual ELAN Awards is made up of Kelly Zmak of Radical Ent., Tarrnie Williams of Relic, Kay Gruenwoldt of N-Gage, Doug Campbell of SPIN West VFX and the prolific Producer/Director from all three sectors, Ian Verchere.

Animated Feature Oscar Entries Due Nov. 3

To qualify in the Animated Feature Film category for the 81st Academy Awards, filmmakers must submit entry forms and supporting materials to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by 5 p.m. PT on Monday, November 3.

The deadline to submit accompanying film prints is Friday, November 14.

Interactive Achievement Awards Gets New Partnership

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) and the International Game Developers Association (IGDA), have signed an agreement where the IGDA will become involved in the Interactive Achievement Awards (IAAs).

The IAAs, now in their 12th year, are supported by all of the major video game publishers and developers in the industry. Their purpose is to recognize the top creative and commercial successes each year with Academy, and now IGDA members, voting on the winners.

The Scientific and Technical Awards Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that eight scientific and technical achievements have been selected for further awards consideration.

The list is made public to allow individuals and companies with similar devices or claims of prior art the opportunity to submit their achievements for review. The deadline to submit additional entries is Tuesday, September 16.

The Academy of Machinima Arts & Sciences (AMAS) has opened the call for submissions for the 2008 Machinima Film Festival, which will be held Saturday, November 1, 2008, at Eyebeam, a multi-disciplinary art and technology center in New York City. Filmmakers interested in submitting their work for the 2008 Machinima Awards ("The Mackies") should do so by Friday, Sept. 12.

Enchanted, Lost Win Big At Saturn Awards

Disney's ENCHANTED proved magical at the 34th Annual Saturn Awards on Tuesday by receiving three Saturn Awards including Best Picture (fantasy), and Best Actress (Amy Adams).

Television honors were dominated by the ABC television series, LOST, which walked away with four awards, including Best Network Television Series and Best Actor (Matthew Fox). SWEENEY TODD, RATATOUILLE, and 300 each received two Saturn Awards.

North American Studios Win Big At Promax Awards

Design studios like bpg and Cuppa Coffee Studios were multiple award winners at this weekend's Broadcast Design Association/Promax Awards in New York.

The BDA Awards are regarded as the highest accolade for creative professionals in the broadcast design industry.

Cuppa Coffee has won more than 50 times over the past 10 years, including two Golds this year for Art Direction & Design: Topical Campaign for the Spike Scream Awards and the Art Direction & Design: Special Events Promo for the ESPN ESPY Awards.

35th Annual Student Academy Awards

Thirty-two students from 20 colleges and universities have been selected as finalists in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 35th Annual Student Academy Awards competition. Their films will now be screened for and judged by Academy members, who will vote to select the winners.

Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal awards, along with accompanying cash prizes of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, respectively, may be presented in each of four categories. Winning filmmakers will participate in a week of industry-related and social activities, culminating in the awards ceremony on June 7.

Winners For 2008 Student Academy Awards

Eleven students from eight colleges and universities have been named winners in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 35th Annual Student Academy Awards competition.

They will participate in a week of industry-related activities and social events, culminating in the awards ceremony on June 7 at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. One film student from Germany has also been selected to receive this year's Honorary Foreign Film award.
