Indian animation and visual effects house Visual Computing Labs (VCL), a division of Tata Elxsi, used Autodesk Maya software as the lead 3-D modeling, animation and visual effects tool on ROADSIDE ROMEO. VCL also relied on the Autodesk Flame visual effects system to create the film, while Prime Focus used the Autodesk Lustre system for the final color grade.

A joint production of Yash Raj Films and Walt Disney Pictures, ROADSIDE ROMEO is India's first 3-D animated mainstream feature film, as well as the first Hollywood-Bollywood co-production.

Autodesk has completed the acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Softimage -- a developer of 3D technology for the film, television and games markets -- for approximately $35 million. On October 23, 2008, Autodesk announced it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Softimage from Avid Technology.

Touch feedback technology developer Immersion Corporation today announced four new products and services for the motion capture (mocap) and animation industries. Attendees of SIGGRAPH 2008 will see the new offerings in booth 1422 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, August 12-14, 2008.

Autodesk Announces 10-Year Anniversary Release of Maya Software

The first extension release for Autodesk 3ds Max 2009 and Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2009 software is now available to Autodesk Subscription customers. The Creativity Extension includes new particle effects capabilities, designed to help artists increase the realism of their work. The extension will also allow artists, designers, and visualization specialists incorporate audio and sound effects into their animated scenes, and quickly optimize highly detailed 3D models from digital sculpting applications, such as Autodesk Mudbox software.

The ELEMENTAL series showcases the world's best digital artwork created with Autodesk software. ELEMENTAL 3 is packed with exciting imagery from Autodesk customers with a strong emphasis on architectural and design visualization. For the first time in an ELEMENTAL title, Autodesk Maya and Autodesk Mudbox artwork are also included.
