Autodesk Kynapse Middleware Licensed for America's Army 3 Computer Game

(NASDAQ:ADSK) has announced that the U.S. Army has licensed Autodesk Kynapse artificial intelligence (AI) middleware for the AMERICA'S ARMY 3 computer game. Kynapse will help to enhance game play in the new title by providing AI to various classes of non-player characters (NPCs). NPCs are characters that are not controlled by the individual playing the computer game. AMERICA'S ARMY 3 will be released in 2009.

Autodesk Launches Flare, Smoke, Flint and More at NAB 2009

Autodesk announced the 2010 releases of Smoke and Flint software for editorial finishing and vfx, while also unveiling the 2009 Extension 1 releases of Lustre and Incinerator color grading software. In addition, the company launched Autodesk Flare software, a creative companion to the 2010 releases of Flame and Inferno vfx systems. Autodesk Talks GDC

It's been a busier GDC than usual for Autodesk, which was expected after the recent Softimage purchase. First came the announcement of 3ds Max 2010, followed by new versions of its two runtime technologies for the game engine -- HumanIK 4 animation middleware and Kynapse 6 artificial intelligence (AI) middleware -- as well as Softimage Mod Tool 7.5 software (formerly SOFTIMAGE|XSI Mod Tool), the free 3D modeling and animation package for aspiring artists.

Autodesk introduced 3ds Max 2010 software at GDC, offering nearly 350 additional features. The 2010 release provides innovative creative tools: a render-quality viewport display and at least 100 new Graphite modeling tools. Autodesk Introduces Softimage 7.5 Software

Autodesk has launched Autodesk Softimage 7.5 software for visual effects and game production, renaming the SOFTIMAGE|XSI software -- acquired from Avid Technology, Inc. -- Autodesk Softimage. The 7.5 version offers timesaving new features, such as UV unfolding technology, a multithreaded Syflex cloth simulator and an integrated mental ray 3.7+ renderer. Artists have used Softimage to create numerous movies, commercials and video games, including the Oscar-winning film HAPPY FEET, Coca Cola's HEIST Super Bowl ad, and the FABLE II videogame.

Autodesk to Cut 10 Percent of Work Force

Autodesk has announced they will cut 750 jobs, or about 10 percent of their staff, according to wire reports.

A release on iStockAnalyst said Autodesk will "consolidate certain facilities as part of a plan to reduce operating expenses."

The initiatives are in addition to the ongoing actions previously announced that include a hiring freeze, business travel restrictions, and other reductions in its operating expenses.

Foundry Slashes Sparks Prices as Autodesk Revokes License

The Foundry has significantly reduced prices on plug-ins for Autodesk advanced systems, as it is no longer part of the Autodesk Authorized Developer Network program and can no longer guarantee continued development or support.

The decision follows notification by Autodesk that it will not renew its development license with The Foundry, citing competitive issues. The decision ends Autodesk's 12-year development relationship with The Foundry and its users.
