eyeon Expands European Office

eyeon Software, which introduced Fusion 5, the latest in its flagship compositing software at SIGGRAPH 2005 (shipping Aug. 31), has expanded its European office, appointing Rüdiger Knoblach to director of operations for eyeon Europe, while London-based Tim Doidge has been promoted to director of sales.

The European visual effects community dominates the sales of DFX+, one of eyeons signature broadcast products, allowing the expansion to take place before the release of Fusion 5.

Avid Technology Inc. launched version 5.0 of the companys flagship SOFTIMAGE|XSI 3D animation software. This latest version includes new tools that set industry benchmarks for performance and creative flexibility. As a key component of Avid's integrated computer graphics solutions, SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.5.0 introduces 3D teams to new features, such as Ultimapper, a map generation tool for producing cinema-quality maps in a few clicks; and GATOR, a unique property transfer system for merging fully textured and animated 3D models.

Leading Visual Artists Invited to Interpret The Fountain

Director Darren Aronofsky (PI, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM), Regency Enterprises and Warner Bros. Pictures have invited 15 artists, including top graphic artists from the comic book world, to create original works of art interpreting Aronofskys forthcoming sci-fi fantasy film, THE FOUNTAIN, which will be released this fall (tentatively in December).

Beginning in mid-August, these images will be released on the films official website at www.thefountainmovie.com. A new interpretation will appear approximately once per week leading up to the films release.

This spring the Japan Society and the Public Art Fund will collaborate on an exhibition that will fill the society's galleries on East 47th Street and spill out into the city.

It is the first collaboration between the two institutions, the first time the nonprofit Public Art Fund will be involved in an indoor exhibition and the first time the Japan Society will have input on outdoor projects. It will also be the first time any part of the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami's SUPERFLAT series will be shown in New York.

MoCCA Hosts NOW THEN Online Comic Exhibit

The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art is hosting its second online exhibit titled, NOW THEN. The theme of the exhibit is -- what did professional comic artists draw like when they were 12 years old?

Comic artist Dave Bamundo had the idea for an exhibit that featured comic artists current work, compared to something they had done as a child. This idea was combined with Robert Zimmermans idea to poll professional comic artists, asking who their favorites in the business were. The top 25 artists current and childhood are displayed in the exhibit.
