2006 -- A Good Year For French Producer & Director Sidonie Herman

P&PM (Production & Partners Multimedia), a French production company headed by Sidonie Herman, is coming to MIPCOM (#LR 2.09) to unveil its inked animation deals, which include THE SECRETS OF DROON (26x26), an HD animated series with Tony Abbott and Template Ent.; a 3D HD animated series, BUGHOUSE ROCK (26x26), and a 2D animated series, THE LOST WORLD, (26x26) with Vivavision; MAGNITKA, a 2D animated series with Vivavision and TV Pinguim; EAT ME (104x1), a 3D HD animated series with Neutral Prods.; a 3D animated series, LEO (26x26), and an animated feature film, ZENZANO (82) with Dujass Film.

Hellboy Gets an All-New Look in Animated Products

Beginning in late 2006, in conjunction with the release of the animated HELLBOY: THE SWORD OF STORMS DVD, Dark Horse Deluxe will launch a variety of comics and toys. The animated feature is being produced by Starz Media and released on DVD by Anchor Bay.

Studio B Wins Four Elans

On Sept. 14, 2006, in Vancouver, B.C., the Canadian Awards for the Electronic and Animated Arts (CAEAA) winners were announced.

The theater was packed with videogame and animation luminaries as well as new media art schools' top talents who were wined, dined and entertained by William Shatner and a host of industry celebrities.

"The evening was a huge success," said Yannis Mallat, ceo of Ubisoft's Montreal studio. "The first edition of the Canadian Awards for the Electronic and Animated Arts is a step forward for the entire Canadian video game industry."

Brother Bear Sequel Tops DVD Sales Charts

Buena Vista Home Ent.s BROTHER BEAR 2 has landed in the top slot on the national DVD sales chart for the week ending Sept. 3, according THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. This is the second big direct-to-video animated sequel for Buena Vista this year with Februarys BAMBI 2, which still is among the top 10 DVD sellers of the year. In other animated charts toppers, Paramounts SOUTH PARK SEASON 8 DVD set ranked #8 in its first week.

CBS, DIC & AOL Reveal CBS 2006-07 Children's Programming Schedule

CBS, DIC and AOL present "KOLs Secret Slumber Party on CBS" set to premiere Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, on the CBS Television Network. The three-hour, E/I-compliant branded programming block exclusive to broadcast television is comprised of four animated series and two new live-action shows. Animated Hellboy Unveiled at Comic-Con

At Comic-Con on Friday, July 21, 2006, at 10:30 am in Room 6B, IDT Ent. will present a special panel with the creative force behind the animated adventure, HELLBOY: SWORD OF STORMS. Flickerlab Signs Animation Director Eric Merola

FlickerLab, the New York City-based design and animation studio, has added director of animation Eric Merola to its creative roster, responsible for the direction of animated spots and the creation of original content. He will also work directly with FlickerLab founder/creative director Harold Moss as a creative partner on original properties, both live-action and animated.

D7 Studios has launched the first chapter of its new animated adventure series, D7PEACEMAKER REVELATION, in multi-platform release, including High Definition, DVD, iPod and Internet download at www.D7.com. The online version of the series allows the viewer to watch and interact with additional scenes, giving more insight into specific characters and foreshadow events to come.

3D Animated Krishna Film in the Works

Due to the success of the animated film HANUMAN, filmmaker Prahlad Patel is developing another mythological movie in 3D animation based on the tales of Lord Krishna, according to Hindu.com. Patel said the full-length feature would focus on Krishnas life and teachings. Production is set to start in September. The script is finished and the producers plan to have the film ready for release in 2007.

Pink Panther Returns on DVD

Steve Martin steps into the role of bumbling Inspector Clouseau made famous by the late Peter Sellers in this family-friendly remake of THE PINK PANTHER, which recently bowed on DVD (Sony Home Ent., $28.95). Say what you will about the success or failure of Martins wild and crazy interpretation, but the title sequence from Kurtz and Friends Animation is true to form. Judge for yourself, as the Animated Trip featurette covers the animated opening credits with interviews with director Bob Kurz, animator Eric Goldberg and editor Ken Smith.

French & Saunders Cast In LAIKA's Stop-Motion Animated Movie Coraline

LAIKA Ent. has struck a deal with the celebrated British comedy duo of Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders to join Dakota Fanning and Teri Hatcher in its first animated feature film, CORALINE. The stop-motion animated movie, being directed/adapted by Henry Selick, is being distributed worldwide by Focus Features.

Selick is adapting the stop-motion flick with CG effects from Neil Gaimans international best-selling book, CORALINE. LAIKA Ent.s director of story Mike Cachuela is co-director of the feature.

Two Animated shorts Honored at Cannes

The 59th International Film Festival in Cannes, held May 17 to 28 2006, awarded the Palme d'Or to British director Ken Loach for THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, an incisive look at strife in Ireland circa 1920. Two animated shorts, CONTE DE QUARTIER (URBAN TALE) by Florence Miailhe, and MR. SCHWARTZ, MR. HAZEN & MR. HORLOCKER, a student film by Stefan Mueller, amongst the 55 films from 30 countries in competition.

It's dedicated new-media department, O2 Digital that was launched in mid-2005, is prepping computer-animated episodes based on CITY OF MEN, the TV series spin-off of Meirelles' breakout film, CITY OF GOD.
