WB to Expand Pucca Merch to U.S., Mexico

Warner Bros. Consumer Products is set to expand the PUCCA animated series' merchandise to the U.S., Canada and Mexico, reports VARIETY. The South Korean series originated on the internet and has a successful consumer products industry in Brazil.

Vooz Co. launched PUCCA on the internet in 2000 as a short Flash series about the young daughter of a Chinese restaurant owner who falls in love with a 12-year-old ninja. The series then got a place on Disney XD.

Eisner Pops in Writer for Bazooka Joe Feature

Michael Eisner's Tornante Co. has hired Mike Hammer to write the screenplay for a BAZOOKA JOE feature, based on the comicstrip that where included in Bazooka bubble gum, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. This will be Hammer's first professional script after graduating from Chapman University. Hammer's spec script, SONNY TAKES TO PERU caught the attention of Tornante execs. Eisner acquired Bazooka in 2007 when he purchased the Topps trading card company for $380 million.

Weta Opens Research Branch

Weta Digital is planning a branch dedicated to advanced computer graphics research called Transfx, reports VARIETY. VFXWorld reported in April that Sebastian Sylwan had joined Weta as head of research and development, and now he will oversee the new arm, which hopes to bridge the gap between R&D and production. Previously, Sylwan worked for Autodesk as senior industry manager for film and TV.

Denzel Washington Might be Unstoppable

Denzel Washington is in negotiations to star in Tony Scott's UNSTOPPABLE drama, per VARIETY, about a runaway train carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals.

The 20th Century Fox production was written by Mark Bomback, and is loosely based on a real event. Washington would play an experienced engineer who must board the train with a young conductor to chase the train down.
