The Return Of Sketching Tours Of Italy With Life Drawing Instructor Glenn Vilppu

Take a tour of Italy where you will draw the sights and receive personal instruction from world class life drawing master Glenn Vilppu. Participants will go to places where most tourists never dream of going! When traveling through the cities of Umbria & Tuscany, Glenn will lecture on the local art. Everyone is promised a lot of instruction, food and fun with great company. Everyone is welcome; it isn't necessary to be an artist. The 14-day tour is scheduled June 16-29, 2001. The registration fee, airfare not included, is $3,295.

Disney Announces the 2000 Disney Legends Recipients

The Walt Disney Co. has announced the recipients of the 2000 Disney Legends Awards in honor of individuals whose work has made a significant and lasting impact on the Disney legacy. Grace Bailey will posthumously receive the honor for a 40-year Disney career in which she served as head of the Ink and Paint department. Harriet Burns was the studio's first woman Imagineer and a pioneer in designing and building prototypes for Disney's theme park attractions. Joyce Carlson was a studio inker, who went on to build prototypes of IT'S A SMALL WORLD and other theme park attractions.

Blur Studio recently provided motion graphics design and production services for a new 60-second spot for the U.S. Army Reserve. The spot entitled "Dot You" promotes opportunities in the Army Reserve and highlights the service's Website, goarmyreserve.com. Typography animates over the live-action, echoing values such as "leadership," "dedication" and "adventure." The spot culminates with a series of hero shots over which appears the Army Reserve's Website address.

Quiet Man Uses face2face Technology On K'nex Toys Spot

Quiet Man searches for "Intelligent Life" in two new 15 and 30-second spots for K'nex toy company. In the commercial, two animated aliens are sent to Earth to search for "signs of intelligent life." When they arrive, they ignore human beings and concentrate instead on a robotic toy built with high-tech plastic blocks called K'nex. The robotic toy has a Cyber Key device used to program it to perform different types of behavior such as that of a guard dog or a battle robot.

Castelli Animati Awards Top Prize To Flying Nansen And Village Of Idiots

The 5th edition of Castelli Animati took place in Genzano Di Roma, Italy, October 4-8, 2000. An international jury comprised of Massimo Bucchi (Italy), Paul Driessen (Netherlands), Julian Nott (UK), Furio Scarpelli (Italy) and Wendy Tilby (Canada) chose the winners. The Grand Prize (ex-aequo) went to "Flying Nansen" by Igor Kovalyov, USA, and "Village Of Idiots" by Eugene Fedorenko & Rose Newlove, Canada.

Cinanima Announces More Prizes And Workshops

Seven films in Cinanima's international competition program are also in competition for the FNAC Prize for Best Portuguese Script and the Cartoon Portugal Prize for Best Portuguese Film. The films are: "Clandestino" by Abi Feijó, "Cof-Cof" by José Pedro Cavalheiro, "Fragmentos de Sal" by Cristina Teixeira, "Avanca 2000" by Vítor Lopes, "Miragem" by Ana Carina Dias and "Inverno" and "Racismo," which were created by collectives. All the films in the International Competition are eligible for the Prize for the Best Original Soundtrack.

Unsold Anime Pilots: See What Never made It To U.S. TV!

An evening of rare English-dubbed Japanese animated TV series of the 1960s that DIDN'T make it to America! Osamu Tezuka's BIG X, Toei's KEN THE WOLF BOY and Tatsunoko's SPACE ACE (aka RING-O) will be screened. Jerry Beck, Fred Patten and Fred Ladd (producer of the English language SPACE ACE) will introduce the screening. The event takes place at 7:30 pm. Witchblade Now Gets A TV Series

Upon the success of the TNT original movie, a new TV series based on the WITCHBLADE comic book will go into production. TNT has ordered 11 episodes from Warner Bros. to be broadcast next summer. The WITCHBLADE telepic was seen in 3.5 million households and was the most watch telepic for the week of August 21-27.

We have a correction to an article published October 6, 2000 regarding Sunwoo Entertainments hiring of Regis Brown as vice president of international television & video. Koreas Sunwoo Entertainment was listed as being purchased by Germanys TV Loonland, however it was actually New York-based Sunbow Entertainment that was acquired by TV Loonland in their recent deal with Sony Wonder.
