Animation Committee Formed To Discover Euro Talent

Aardman Animation, Cartoon Network, Nelvana and the National Film and Television School, U.K. film and animation school, have formed the Animation Committee to discover and support European animation talent. The organization will review toon shorts quarterly. The best of those shorts will be aired on Britshorts.com. Some of those shorts will be selected for further development in film and television.

Entertainment Rights Plc Creates Home Vid Division

Entertainment Rights plc has announced the creation of their home video company Right Entertainment. Along with its recent US$22.5 million acquisition of Link, Right will enable Entertainment Rights to exploit its properties around the globe in all mediums. In turn, Entertainment Rights has signed an exclusive deal with Universal Pictures Video UK to release its properties on video.

Simpsons Ratings Soar, Family Guy's Fall

Jumping up to the 40th spot, THE SIMPSONS scored a 5.4 rating/10 share. This is .5 better than it captured last week. The special Tuesday night airing of THE SIMPSONS grabbed a 4 rating/7 share for 69th place. Dropping from 57th to finish in 73rd, FAMILY GUY fashioned a 3.8 rating/6 share. In 77th place, KING OF THE HILL hitched a 3.6 rating/7 share. FUTURAMA racked in a 2.9 rating/6 share in 88th place. The U.S. universe estimate used for calculating ratings for the broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, UPN, PAX and WB) is equal to 100% of all TV households.

TV-Loonland Sells Series To German Kids Channel Kinderkanal

TV-Loonland has made several key sales to Kinderkanal, Germanys free children's television channel. CRAMP TWINS, THREE FRIENDS AND JERRY and YVON OF THE YUKON will premiere on Kinderkanal in November 2001. Directed by Becky Bristow and based on the graphic comic novels by Brian Wood, CRAMP TWINS is a story of two 10-year-old twins Wayne and Lucien Cramp, who are completely unalike. The series is a TV-Loonland, Sunbow Entertainment and Cartoon Network U.K co-production. THREE FRIENDS AND JERRY follows four ten-year-old boys as they struggle to get through adolescence.

Western Images Designs Complete Package For ShopNBC

Western Images has completed work on the new ShopNBC campaign. The design package includes an animated logo, 12 promos, 12 show opens, banners, billboards and lower thirds and a "toolbox" of elements for additional programming. The treatment features a montage of 3D objects, plus male and female models depicting moments from a range of lifestyle activities, which in turn provide the basis for the different shows on the network. To achieve an illustrative graphic look for the live-action, the models were filmed against green screen to separate them from the background.

Discreet & Microsoft Brings Gmax To Flight Simulator

Discreet has signed a licensing agreement with Microsoft Corp. to create, publish and distribute gmax game packs for multiple Microsoft game titles. The first confirmed title is MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2002: PROFESSIONAL EDITION, which is set for delivery in the third quarter of this year. With gmax and the FLIGHT SIMULATOR game pack loaded, users can import game content aircraft, buildings, trees and other 3D objects and customize those objects.

Veggietales Gets Its Own Touring Stage Show

Big Ideas Productions has entered a two-year worldwide agreement with Clear Channel Entertainment to produce a new stage version of its upcoming CGI feature JONAH -- A VEGGIETALES MOVIE. Both the theatrical film and stage show are set to debut in 2002. The touring show will launch in February at Minneapolis' State Theater. Other cities targeted for the initial 40-week run in the U.S. include: Dallas; Philadelphia; Indianapolis; Cincinnati; Denver; Detroit; Chicago; Los Angeles; Atlanta; Seattle; and Orlando.

Maya Complete To Ship In September

Alias|Wavefront, an SGI company, has announced that its Maya Complete software for Mac OS X is scheduled to ship on or before September 25, 2001. Beta tester and 3D artist, Kevin Baille, said, "All of us here at The Orphanage are ecstatic about the progress Alias|Wavefront has been making with the OS X implementation of Maya. Scholastic Productions' CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG has been awarded the Spring 2001 CINE Golden Eagle Award in the animation category. The series was honored for a two-part episode "To Catch A Bird/Best Party Ever" -- on the themes of having faith in friends and reaching out to those who have hurt you. The winning episodes were animated by Mike Young Productions.

Atomic Cartoons Posts Dog In A Box With 2 Wheels

Atomic Cartoons has posted the Web series DOG IN A BOX WITH 2 WHEELS on their Website (www.atomiccartoons.com). The series is a co-production between Atomic Cartoons and Honkworm International. The five-show series features a justice-hungry, hind-legless canine with two back wheels. "We are very pleased to finally have the opportunity to showcase this wonderful little property," said Rob Davies, one of show's original creators. "This adds new life and energy to the dusty old dog!" Also new to the Atomic Cartoons Website is an all-Flash interactive studio tour.

Audiences Go Ape At The US Box Office

Those damn bloody apes of PLANET OF THE APES ruled the U.S. box office in their debut weekend. The re-envisioned PLANET, with primary visual effects by ILM, lassoed US$69.55 million. Dropping to second, JURASSIC PARK III racked in another $22.5 million. The dino disaster, with primary visual effects by ILM, has feasted on $124.8 million in only two weeks in U.S. theaters. Also dropping a spot to land in sixth, CATS & DOGS brought home an additional $4.52 million. The pet warfare flick, with primary visual effects by Tippett Studios and Rhythm & Hues, has drummed up $81.52 million to date. DR.
