Family media company Big Idea will be at this week's Licensing Show 2002 in New York to announce THE BOB & LARRY MOVIE, its second animated feature film, currently in pre-production. The film tells the story of the popular VEGGIETALES characters Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber. Big Idea has already locked in many licensees for its first animated feature film, JONAH: A VEGGIETALES MOVIE, set for release on October 4, 2002 from Artisan's FHE Pictures.

The coveted short film grand prize at the 26th International Festival of Animated Film at Annecy went to Adriaan Lokman's CG short BARCODE, while Barry Purves' animated comedy drama HAMILTON MATTRESS was honored with the grand prize for Best TV Animation Program. 245 films were screened in the "Annecy 2002" official selection, coming from 33 countries, with more than 200 films premiering at the festival. The awards were presented at the closing ceremony held on Saturday, June 8, 2002. Congratulations to all the winners!

THQ Inc. has released STAR WARS: EPISODE II "ATTACK OF THE CLONES" for Game Boy Advance, the first game that follows the storyline of the latest prequel in the STAR WARS saga. Players assume the role of three different ATTACK OF THE CLONES heroes: Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi, while commanding Republic gunships, speeders and Jedi starfighters in space combat. Players must also wield their lightsabers in side-scrolling lightsaber battles against Jango Fett, Count Dooku and other enemies.

The Big Apple Anime Festival (BAAF) will host anime director Yoshiyuki Tomino, creator of the GUNDAM saga, as a guest of honor at BAAF 2002. Tomino will be appearing at BAAF 2002 and the Anime Expo NY, both held in Times Square, August 30 - September 2, 2002. Yoshiyuki Tomino's CHAR'S COUNTER ATTACK will be one of the featured films to be screened at the festival. There will also be a panel discussion on Tomino's works and he will make a special guest appearance at the Times Square Virgin Megastore where he will greet fans and sign autographs.

At the 2002 E3Expo, children's video game publisher NewKidCo International Inc. unveiled their 2002 line up of next generation games based on properties in their catalog of licensees. New video games scheduled for release in 2002 include: titles based on both TOM AND JERRY and E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL for PlayStation2, GameCube and Game Boy Advance; DORA THE EXPLORER: THE HUNT FOR PIRATE PIG'S TREASURE for Game Boy Advance; THE SUPER STOO-PENDOUS WORLD OF DR. SEUSS for Game Boy Advance; and MUPPET PINBALL MAYHEM for Game Boy Advance.

Nicktoons TV, the newly launched 24-hour network devoted to Nickelodeon animation, will be available on AT&T Digital Cable beginning July 1, 2002. The channel offers an ongoing mix of current and past Nicktoons such as SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS, THE WILD THORNBERRYS, THE REN AND STIMPY SHOW, DOUG, RUGRATS and AHHH! REAL MONSTERS. In addition, Nicktoons TV will feature acquired Warner Bros. contemporary classics such as PINKY AND THE BRAIN, TINY TOON ADVENTURES and ANIMANIACS.

Viewers just can't get enough of the Brazilian lion, the polar bear twins and the other zoo inhabitants that were the subject of Nick Park's Oscar-winning short CREATURE COMFORTS. Park and Aardman Animation are in production on a new series featuring the animated animals that is scheduled to air on U.K. channel ITV1 in 2003. Old favorites from the original short, as well as nearly 100 new characters, will appear in the new CREATURE COMFORTS series. Creator Nick Park said, "I have had this project in mind for a few years now.

Corus Entertainments Nelvana has recently licensed a slew of animated series to broadcasters in a number of countries. Spain's Luk Entertainment picked up BRACEFACE, CYBERCHASE and SEVEN LITTLE MONSTERS, while RTP (Portugal) took BRACEFACE along with MEDABOTS, MAGGIE AND THE FEROCIOUS BEAST, MAX & RUBY and TIMOTHY. Globo TV in Brazil has licensed FAIRLY ODD PARENTS, RESCUE HEROES and BEYBLADE, which has also been acquired by TF1 Video. Hungary's Minimax picked up ROLIE POLIE OLIE and the first two seasons of BRACEFACE and FRANKLIN for the Minimax block on Romania's ProTV.

HP's Linux-based technology played a major role in the production of DreamWorks' latest animated film SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON. According to HP, placing Linux in the hands of traditional animators allowed for the seamless blend of 2D and 3D animation, a format that DreamWorks is calling "tradigital" animation. During the making of the film, HP engineers worked closely with DreamWorks to enhance the functionality of Linux to power ToonShooter, DreamWorks' proprietary 2D animation software.

Disney Channel will premiere the original animated comedy/action series KIM POSSIBLE on Friday, June 7, 2002, with three back-to-back half-hour episodes airing from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Following its debut, a new episode will air each Friday night at 6:30 pm. In the series, high school student Kim Possible becomes an unwitting superhero when she creates a Website proclaiming, "I can do anything." She was actually hoping for babysitting and lawn mowing gigs, instead, e-mails pleading for help arrive from across the globe.
