On Saturday, July 25th at 7:00pm, the Toronto Animated Image Society (TAIS) will be presenting its annual TAIS Animation Showcase at CineCycle in downtown Toronto.

Each year, the TAIS Animation Showcase takes an evening to show audiences some of the best local, national and international independent animation talent. The films vary in medium, genre and style, though all films exemplify the unlimited possibilities of animation filmmaking.

The audience and a jury of media artists will be voting on the films for four awards, with a grand prize of a full year-long dual-membership to TIFF Bell Lightbox. Twenty-one short films have been curated to feed the animation fix, including: Nicolas Menard’s colorful and award-winning Loop Ring Chop Drink, about fear, depression and breaking the internet; Torontonian Fraser Wright’s Storage Space, created using an old analog TV; ‘exquisite corpse’ film A Sailor's Grave, made by nearly a dozen artist-run centers from Canada and around the world; and Italian director Martina Scarpelli’s Cosmoetico, an intimate encounter with a woman who empties the universe. The Anjiam section of the TAIS Showcase is a wild, explosive, mind-altering collection of 10-second animated shorts created by animators with no guidelines beyond this year’s theme of “Psychedelic.” Awards apply to best Anijams as well.

The screening will be supporting the Toronto Animated Image Society, an artist-run, non-profit charitable organization where independent artists come to create, explore, research and develop skills in traditional and experimental animation techniques, and where communities gain access to self-expression through animation. TAIS regularly draws in artists and animation-lovers all across the city to its events and programs.

Growing each year in quality and content, the 2015 TAIS Animation Showcase will be an evening not to be missed.
