Mission 2, Gladiator and 60 Seconds Rule Global BO
With GLADIATOR's global box office dominance slowly coming to an end, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2 and GONE IN 60 SECONDS have gained top spots around the world. Grossing $804,785 and raising its Swedish cume to $1.16 million, 60 SECONDS finished atop the charts in its second weekend, knocking GLADIATOR down to second where it grossed $255,829. In its second weekend in Australia, 60 SECONDS stayed off newcomer PERFECT STORM to remain at #1. 60 SECONDS grossed $3.21 million and STORM managed $2.23 million in second place. Also Down Under the other global champs, GLADIATOR and M:I 2, are still hanging on. GLADIATOR is at #8, with a gross of $508,862 and a cume of $17.16 million and MISSION 2 landed at #6, with a gross of $884,324 and a cume of $12.07 million. However in the U.K., the MISSION 2 debut rode in atop the charts. Beating out last weekends champ CHICKEN RUN, M:I 2 grossed $6.26 million. DreamWorks' CHICKEN laid another $5.81 million, raising its British cume to $14.44 million. MISSION and CHICKEN sent GLADIATOR to third, with a gross of $972,856 and bringing its British cume to $40.63 million. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2's premiere in Brazil and Germany sent GLADIATOR tumbling down the charts. In Germany, MISSION ranked #1 with a gross of $7.77 million and GLADITOR fell to third with a gross of $745,555 and a German cume of $18.65 million. In Brazil, M:I 2 landed at #1 with a gross of $3.72 million and GLADITOR slipped to second with a gross of $534,048 and a Brazilian cume of $6.89 million. However, GLADIATOR still holds the #1 slots in France, Japan and Italy. In France, the Maximus moneymaker brought in $4.68 million, advancing its cume to $14.17 million. In Japan, the R-rate revenge romp grossed $528,162, raising its cume to $3.47 million. In Italy, the Roman Empire epic landed $203,704, bringing its cume to $7.56 million. Elsewhere, MISSION finished in third, while GLADIATOR stopped in eighth place in Hong Kong. MISSION grossed $384,242, raising its cume in Hong Kong to $4.13 million. GLADIATOR earned $10,050, bringing its cume to $1.15 million. Also in Hong Kong, TITAN A.E. finished its first full week in release at #7. The space spectacle grossed $18,953, advancing its cume to $153,273. In Spain, GLADITOR felt the might of a mouse called STUART LITTLE. The rodents debut garnered a #1 ranking and a gross of $2.12 million. Falling to second, GLADIATOR grossed $920,497, bringing its Spanish cume to $12.02 million. In its first full week in the U.K., STUART finished in 6th place with a gross of $403,459. In Germany, the LITTLE laugher just squeaked back into the top ten with a gross of $168,633, bringing its German cume to $8.76 million. THE TIGGER MOVIE gained some steam there also finishing in fifth place. The caffinated cat grossed $506,262, raising its German cume to $2.18 million. Also in Germany, FLINTSTONES VIVA ROCK VEGAS rolled in at #8. The rock-headed romp grossed $188,475, raising its four-week cume to $1.79 million. In its first full week in Australia, the FLINTSTONES prequel rocketed up two spots to #4. The Dino-vehicle grossed $1.11 million, advancing its cume to $1.73 million. Also Down Under, Disneys DINOSAUR fell to third with a gross of $2.05 million. The prehistoric picture has an Australian cume of $4.83 million. FANTASIA/2000 came in at #4 in Brazil. The animated opera earned $244,035, bringing its Brazilian cume to $644,527. In Sweden, POKEMON: THE FIRST MOVIE skipped up two slots to #7. The Charmander charmer grossed another $39,499, raising its Swedish cume to $1.18 million.
