Cast Away Remains Afloat In Second
This past weekend at the U.S. box office the top three remained the same; SAVE THE LAST DANCE remained champ with CAST AWAY taking the second spot with a gross of US$11.15 million. The Tom Hanks-starrer, with primary visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks, has sailed in with $182 million to date. Repeating its turn in third, TRAFFIC raced in another $8.51 million. The drug war saga, with primary visual effects by Cinesite, has garnered $46.69 million thus far. In its U.S. wide release, Guy Ritchie's SNATCH scored a fourth place finish. The gangster comedy, with visual effects by Digital Film @ The Moving Picture Company, brought home $8.01 million, moving its cume to $8.07 million. Continuing to astound audiences, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON leapt up to eighth place with a ticket take of $6.08 million. The Golden Globe winner for best foreign film, with primary visual effects by Blue Sky Studios, CFC/MVFX and Manex Visual Effects, has danced in $37.29 million so far in the States. Dropping from sixth to ninth, THIRTEEN DAYS rocketed in an additional $6.04 million. The Cuban missile crisis caper, with primary visual effects by Cinesite and Visual Concept Entertainment, has secured $19.67 million thus far. Disney's THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE placed in 12th, with a gross of $3.89 million. The llama laugher has drummed up $76.05 million thus far. In 18th place, VERTICAL LIMIT snowballed another $1.26 million. The K2 thriller, with primary visual effects by Anohana Production Management and Technology LLC, has accumulated $65.56 million so far. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: DRACULA 2000 at #21, with a gross of $612,487 and a cume of $32.21 million; 102 DALMATIANS at #22, with a gross of $537,457 and a cume of $63.24 million; CHARLIE'S ANGELS at #24, with a gross of $405,820 and a cume of $124.4 million; RUGRATS IN PARIS at #25, with a gross of $363,022 and a cume of $74.65 million; HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS at #31, with a gross of $201,595 and a cume of $259.3 million; UNBREAKABLE at #32, with a gross of $194,981 and a cume of $93.21 million; CYBERWORLD 3D at #33, with a gross of $190,139 and a cume of $5.22 million; LITTLE NICKY at #39, with a gross of $104,705 and a cume of $39.34 million; DUNGEONS & DRAGONS at #41, with a gross of $75,535 and a cume of $15.07 million; T-REX: BACK TO THE CRETACEOUS at #45, with a gross of $46,354 and a cume of $35.87 million; and BEDAZZLED at #50, with a gross of $36,021 and a cume of $37.81 million.
