Meet Zaoeyo: The One-man 3D Phenom
Beijing visual designer Zaoeyo (Xiaolin Zeng) hit the Stash radar hard in 2016 with his spec title sequence called Organic Machines, a mesmerizing one-man tour de force of striking CG, understated typography and refractive magic.
With this new luminous and atmospheric all-CG opening for the Pause 2017 conference, Zaoeyo proves Organic Machines was no accident.
His new piece – four months in the making – showcases a broader range of skills beyond modeling, lighting and, rendering – including a fine touch with stylized realism and a cinematic confidence that creates immediate wonder and engagement.
Zaoeyo: “This year’s theme of Pause is “Different Perspective.” The whole idea was inspired by an anime called “Digimon Adventure”, whose opening scenes show the different angle of a night city and digital creatures.
“Therefore, we decide to focus on a different angle or perspective of empty cities, to express a feeling of isolation, despite the fact we live in these spaces.
“The idea of using a cat for guidance is borrowed from an indie game called “HK”, which will enhance the feeling of isolation between human and their environment.”
