Who is your avatar?

Oh yeah, totally, like, the avatar is a graphical representation of your very soul!!!

I think I don't care, but actually I judge people's personalities by their avatar design, colors, etc.

I really don't care, it's just a stupid picture that makes the forum slower to load.

Mine is a drawing I did of a superhero I used to play in a role-playing game called Champions. Her name is Shade. She harnesses the powers of Darkness to defeat evil and such, and she can also 'teleport' from shadow to shadow. During the day she works at an art store, but she doesn't talk much and she dresses in Goth garb. In her spare time she paints in order to get the voices out of her head. She used to have a boyfriend, but he killed her once and now she is an agent for Death, ridding the world of rogue Death agents (that's how she got her powers over Darkness).

P.S. If anyone likes SuperHero type stuff...you guys should play City Of Heroes!!! It's AWESOME! I was never into comics and heroes that much, but playing this has gotten me addicted...

*whew* Okay I'll stop talking now!:D

I agree with you.

Even looking at my new one, which is meant to be a joke. somehow the things I write (to me) seem more authoritrian under the new avatar.

Makes sense. It too is a symbol like the letters we type or punctuation.
I'm sure others with multiple memberships have experienced different responses without neccessarily altering their written communication style.

Reminds me of the (urban?) legendary experiement in which the same tests are submitted with different attached photos and the "attractive" student gets higher marks.

Ya see! Now I hear Cybercyst in a sexy breathy alto voice instead of a goofy cartoony voice. All from changing the avavtar.

Hah ha, interesting topic. My last avatar was just a logo i did awhile back (self promo for Swankaman productions)and it was the same as my screen name so i just used it.This most recent one is a character who is most likely a version of myself at about 13 or 14 (when I thought i was REALLY cool; not just moderately cool, as I view myself now?JK) Its a test animation i did where my dad is telling me something and Im rolling my eyes behind his back.It seemed appropriate to look at my own posts and basically dis-regard them in this way...I have a strange sense of humor i guess?
swankaman
p.s. I kept the same (boring!) background as the last to provide some similarity?

I KNEW someone was going to say that! Hee hee!:D

I was going to keep my old avatar, but I thought I would chage it since the forums had changed, too. And also because of Graphiteman's reason above...:p

I love your avatar, Graphiteman. Very...Canadian.:)

So true the power of the avatar.

Mine is Toshiro Mifune from "High and Low".

Mine is hardly worth telling you about - especially now that this poll's inspired me to reconsider. eeek. Mine is my first and sort of recklessly, stubbornly fun. It's sort of my logo for a new, very personal site - scaryfairyfilms.com

I've already had plenty of friends ask about the name - their eyes pulsing with a spooky certainty that it means something.

Nope. Nothing at all. I liked it for its rhythm. I actually wanted to name the site Scary Fairy Filmies, but I couldn't count on anyone being able to remember how it was spelled. :)

That's a very interesting thought, Graphiteman - when I read posts, somehow the words appear in my mind without any kind of voice uttering them. The only exception are Larry's posts - since I've met him IRL and know what his voice sounds like, it occasionally pops into my mind when I read his messages.
Maybe it would be interesting to record tiny voice files, like maybe just a short sentence, zip them and attach them to our posts so those who're interested can actually hear what everybody sounds like? Ah well, just an odd little thought ...
Oh well - avatars. Mine's the jabberwock, yaddayaddayadda. I really like that beast and Tenniel's illustration of it in particular. The jabberwock is menacing, vicious, an archetypical, classic villain who, most importantly, dies a death worthy of its being - yet at the same time it's cooky and is the reason for the children's poem virtually every child in the English-speaking world knows. The stuff of legends and everything I think storytelling should be - epic and atmospheric, lighthearted and nonsensical, sometimes colourful, sometimes glum, funny and threatening, climatic simply something that sticks in your mind and will stick in your children's children's minds.

I totally think that our avatars say a little something about ourselves. I for one like to see avatars that the person has done themselves. I imaging that that that person or character is responding to messages. Yeah I know it's sick but hey I'm a wannabe animator so I'm allowed that. :)

Mine is a character i did long ago. It's from my fist comic book that i did during my senior year. He's a guy that trying to correct all of the worlds evils one at a time. An assasin/vigalanty, whos lost his memory and is haunted by the spirit of his dead brother who keeps blaming him for his death.

Good times right. :)

Spike Spiegel from an anime called CowboyBebop. He is a bounty hunter trying to deal with his past, put simply.

I do kind of associate the avatar with the person speakin cause I suck at remembering names and much better at remembering pictures. So some I don't remember because of the change of avatar. I do however remember most of the people posting here. Nice pics by the way. Mine was a first try at anime, after watching Milennium Princess, but didn't really turn out the way I expected. I used a photo of me for reference, so sorta me as a cartoon.

Thats a great first try! Its better than my 100th try. Also, Milennium Princess is good stuff animation wise.

My avatar was a graphic I did to try and copy Peter Chung's 'Aeon Flux' style. At some point I had planned to simplify and animate it (her) but I've not yet gotten around to it.

She's over two year's old but is still one of my faves.

I do associate people by their avatars. They seem to take on the personality of their owners.

:)

Borogove's picture

My avatar is the Borogove. He came out of a discussion my friend Laura and I were having online around goofy:30am about what kind of animal we figured best represented ourselves. My first reactions were an orangutan or a bear, but neither seemed to realy fit, so I figured I'd go with a giant, hairy, teal monster. I'd already gone by "the Borogove" online for several years, so I figured the monster would be "the Borogove". Besides, Lewis Carroll's poem Jabberwocky was mostly nonsense words with no real definitions (except a few shots in the dark by Humpty Dumpty, but why trust a blow-hard egg?) so my Borogove image is just as good as anybody else's as far as I'm concerned. Here's the first image of the Borogove I drew after deciding he was me.

I do like avatar... when they are, of course, well done - not some sort of bad clipart you can find on certain CDs of a certain Company selling a certain OS for certain computers. Guess who I'm talking about :D

No, seriously now.

My new avatar come from a contest I did three years ago. It's a black and white illustration on blue paper (A3 size - somewhat difficult to scan on a A4 scanner, he he he).

I do clean-up well, tho!

ANIMATIONFREAK's picture

Lol. Splatman, you're funny! Still giggling as I write this.

Borogrove, love the preliminary sketches of your avatar. I like the smily teeth one the best, then the serious, thoughtful expression. Too cute.

Scubb, thanks very much for the compliment on my avatar. I really liked how the characters from Millenium princess looked like real everyday people, but but in animation so I guess I was going for that kind of look. Why I chose a pic of myself and not some gorgeous model from a magazine. CowBoy Beebop was a cool movie too. I'd love to see some of your trys. We are almost always are own worst critiques.

Ender, I've always liked your avatar. To me your avatar represents a laid back fun-loving character.

Well, I could go on an on about all the great avatars, but I've gotta go.

Jabberwocky's picture

Hey Borogove,

since I'm a sucker for animation characters modelled after classic tales, I'd like to ask you what your preliminary design concepts were for your borogove character. Any chance I could see your version of a jabberwock?

This is what borogoves look like in my Looking-Glass world; I stuck to Carroll's description of them looking somewhat like badgers, lizards and cork-screws.

But I think Splatman needs to update:

Maybe he had a hormonal flux?

(seen through the mirror by himself and my left one, while being drawn
and animated in Mirage)

i think on an animation forum everyone should draw and off course preferably Animate! their own Avatar as a rule :D (i also wish i could draw my own smilies  )

but Daniel you haven't told us what your avatar is all about?
i like it a lot (especially because/the way its animated!)

mine was done for one of the awn competitions. I really like how happy he turned out looking. So until I get around to drawing a monkey... it'll work for now.

Don't do nothing because you can't do everything.

Dancing Cavy's picture

My one from before the change was my first animated character, Zeke, in a run cycle. I figured it was time for a change so I now have half-demon InuYasha as my avatar. It is a drawing I drew of him that I am pretty pleased with (drawing anime is tough).

I should probably go back to a character of my own for my avatar, but for now, InuYasha stays. :D "SIT BOY!" ;)

Daniel Poeira's picture

Indeed, I completely forgot! Sorry!

Mine is a character called Filosofante. I developed him for a series I've been planning for months and still didn't get to make. He's an indian elephant and is into meditation and mystical arts in general.

I designed him in Adobe Illustrator and animated in Flash using keyframes and onion skins, but moving the image with the mouse, no tweening. It give the animation a less computer-made look. The shadow was drawn frame-by-frame.

The other two main characters of the series are Rinosoro and Hipoglos, a rhino and a hippo, and the three of them walk around the world looking for a nice place to live. They used to live in the city, but they suddenly felt they didn't belong there (mildly inspired by Rhinoceros, I know...)

There is also a secret group of people who want to take over the world and they constantly try to kill our heros, for no apparent reason. Their leader is called Doktor Ionesco, for obvious reasons, and his first-in-command is the dreadful Ubu King!

I hope I finally get to develop this series some day, it's a lot of fun writing the scripts!
