sorry i cant say but your job description dosent sound that far fetched. i can see how they would get the two mixed as one position. we have the same thing in our studio but its not a general rule and i am not in Canada.

but why do the dissection that early? cant they do it according to shot set up? so you only do rotations for the points you need for a particular shot?

Hello Charmz, welcome to the AWN Forums.

I'm at a US studio that works with Flash. We have character designers that actually create the different characters and draw them out. Then we have what we call a "rigging department" and they Flash out the characters set up all the eye and mouth charts and all that stuff that makes us animators jobs easier.

I don't know what the pay scales are for Canada, so I can't help you there. If you are going to ask for more money, asking between seasons is a good idea so they can work out the budget. Just make sure they are happy with your work. If they keep giving you retakes and not very happy with your work, they just might let you go and hire some one new.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Aloha,
the Ape

Oh we definately make sure that we're only creating views that are needed according to the leica when it comes to incidental characters. If the front and the 3Q front is all that is needed, then that's all that we'll create, unless we feel that we can reuse the character, then we'd probably go ahead with a full rotation.

Yes, I agree with the asking between seasons, it'll give them a chance to include the cost in the budget. I know that they're happy with each designers level of work, as are the Producers. It's just hard to fathom that a traditional concept designer was paid $400 more a week to do concepts of characters, but then the design department that is in there now are getting paid less to do the concepts plus the rigging.

Thanks for your insight guys!
