Hypnotic And Sundance Channel Sign Production Deal

The Sundance Channel and entertainment company Hypnotic have closed a deal to produce and exclusively distribute a series of one-hour short film programs. Titled SUNDANCE CHANNEL AND HYPNOTIC PRESENT SHORTS STOP, the companies plan to sell the programs both domestically and internationally to outlets such as airlines, broadband channels, international television networks, video-on-demand/pay-per-view services, hotels, and institutions. Over the next year, Hypnotic and Sundance Channel will produce a series of co-branded one-hour episodes.

Hungary’s Cartoon Webworks Goes TV

Budapest, Hungarys Cartoon Webworks recently completed three commercials for TEAM Hungary, a Young & Rubicam subsidiary. These are the first three in a series of twelve animated spots that will begin airing this month on Viva+, Hungarys music television channel. The commercials are among the first TV ads in Europe produced entirely in Macromedia Flash.

Mixin Pixls Creates Smoking Effects For Arizona Dept. Of Health Services

Santa Monica-based Mixin Pixls recently contributed CG effects and post-production finishing services to Cognito Films and the Riester-Robb Agency/Phoenix, for a new anti-smoking PSA commissioned by the Arizona Department of Health Services. The spot began airing in April 2001. In Smoke Ring, a magic smoke ring pulls two lovers to a new world that is burnt and scarred by the toxicity of smoking.

Corel Announces Bryce 5

Corel Corporation has announced Bryce 5, the latest version of its 3D landscape creation and animation application. Available for the Macintosh and Windows platforms, the program, part of Corels creative collection, is scheduled for shipment in July 2001. Bryce 5 is Corels first application designed specifically for Apples new Mac OS X platform. Corel plans to release a number of products for the new operating system over the coming months.

Carrara Studio Released

Eovia has announced the release of Carrara Studio, a re-branded and souped up version of MetaCreations Carrara, a 3D graphics application for the Macintosh and Windows platform. Billed as the successor to Ray Dream Studio and Infini-D, the new program includes numerous bug fixes, as well as Amapi 3D v5, a complete NURBS modeler, Smart Pack, a set of 25 new plug-ins and Carrara QuickTour, an interactive tutorial.

BBC Show Wins 22nd Banff Rockie Award For Animation

At the 22nd Banff Rockie Awards (June 10-15, 2001), YOHO AHOY: BUZZ WITH JONES, produced by The Consortium of Gentlemen for the BBC, UK, won the Animation Program Award. Cinar Agrees To Pay Restitution To Telefilm Canada

CINAR Corporation announced that it has reached an agreement with Telefilm Canada to make full restitution for all investments and other financial subsidies made by Telefilm Canada in CINARs productions that have been decertified, or for productions for which final certification will not be granted by the Canadian Audio-visual Certification Office (CAVCO). Under the terms of the agreement, CINAR will repay Telefilm Canada approximately $2,594,000 in full reimbursement of investments and subsidies including interest.

DIC To Buy Golden Books

DIC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. has entered into an agreement to purchase the assets of Golden Books Family Entertainment, Inc., in a deal valued at $170 million. The deal entails a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by Golden Books and its domestic subsidiaries, with DIC petitioning to purchase the companys assets. Golden Books operations will continue as usual during the court and sale process, which is expected to take approximately 60 days. Golden Books assets are quite extensive.

Harvey Completes Sale To Classic Media

The Harvey Entertainment Company announced on June 26, 2001 that they have completed their sale of Harveys classic cartoon characters, contracts and related assets, to Classic Media, LLC, in exchange for approximately US$17,000,000 and the assumption of certain liabilities. Actual funding of the transaction took place on Friday, June 22, 2001. Harvey has also officially changed its name to Sunland Entertainment Co. Inc. with the new OTC Bulletin Board stock symbol of SUNE. The name and stock symbol change will take effect Wednesday, June 27, 2001.
