UE plugin brings film-quality, real-time volumetric VFX into games via GPU-powered compressed VFB effects.
Ukrainian creative solutions company Zibra AI has launched ZibraVDB, its newest solution for Unreal Engine and Houdini, bringing film-quality, real-time volumetric VFX into games by utilizing GPU-powered compressed VDB effects. The UE plugin replays large VFX volumes stored in the OpenVDB format, delivering up to 100x compression and up to 2x faster rendering as Unreal’s SVT.
ZibraVDB offers a high compression rate with little visible difference between compressed and decompressed VFX. This enables the use of previously impractical render volumes in real-time environments. The plugin, designed for companies involved in Virtual Production and CGI within Unreal Engine, helps streamline content creation while enabling the use of complex visual effects, by optimizing workflows and enhancing rendering capabilities.
The plugin also makes it possible to render volumetric effects in game engines in real-time; to reuse a volumetric effect, to optimize memory consumption; and to change effect looks in various parts of the project with shaders.
Technical Challenges in Virtual Production and CGI – solution highlights:
- Optimizing, through compression, to enable seamless real-time rendering
- Integrates with existing tools and workflows, particularly Unreal Engine and Houdini
- Custom development solutions
- Ensuring flexibility and scalability
ZibraVDB offers flexibility in performance and visual quality settings, allowing it to scale with project requirements. This adaptability ensures that ZibraVDB manages a wide range of production scenarios.
