Robert Zemeckis is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to remake THE WIZARD OF OZ from the original 1939 script, reports Deadline.com. This one might fall into the what are they thinking category if it were not for Disney and THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ. Warners owns the rights to the original classic and Deadline reports that this is a race to see who gets the first OZ picture out.

Disney is developing their OZ prequel with Sam Raimi who is also currently developing WORLD OF WARCRAFT with WB and Legendary. Disney and Raimi are looking at Robert Downey Jr. for the title character.
