The 3rd World Summit On Media For Children will happen March 23-26, 2001 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The Summit aims to create an audiovisual policy supporting the rights of children around the world. Organized by the European Children's Television Centre, the event strives to bring many people, including teachers, researchers and academics, together to investigate the relationship of children's television and new media. Participating broadcasters include Nickelodeon (USA), The Discovery Channel (USA), NHK Japan Broadcasting Corporation (Japan), South African Broadcasting Corporation (South Africa), TV Cultura (Brazil), RAI (Italy), Channel 4 (UK), France Television (France), and more. The conferences will feature topics such as: Going Global; Media For All; New Technologies; and Children Have A Say. AWN's Annick Teninge will participate in the Going Global conference entitled, "Enhancing the Industry: The Role of Festivals, Markets and Magazines." Animation-related conferences include: History Of Animation Techniques, presented by SIGGRAPH; Virtual Actors, with live demos; Interactive Fiction; and Animated Characters Psychology. The event will also hold an exhibition, audiovisual centre, forums, workshops, children's events and a children-produced film festival.
