Wizart’s ‘Snow Queen’ to Get Third Installment

With Hollywood voice talent to be announced at AFM, the third installment in the CG-animated Russian film franchise is set to roll out worldwide in 2016.

Internationally successful Russian film franchise The Snow Queen will see a third installment from producer Wizart Animation, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.

The new CG animated adventure is being produced with a budget of $15 million, and is set to roll out worldwide in 2016.

Hollywood voice talent is due to be announced in the fall at AFM, producer Yuri Moskvin told THR. “With each new project we are trying to go to a whole new level,” Moskvin reportedly said. “We are increasing the level of production and marketing, and bringing famous scriptwriters and cast on board.”

The decision to produce a third movie comes after the success of the first two features in the franchise by the Moscow- and Voronezh-based animation studio. The Snow Queen and Snow Queen 2 have reached combined box-office revenue of $25 million, with more international releases due for both films this year.

Entertainment One has picked up U.S. and Canadian rights (English- and French-speaking) to the 3D Snow Queen 2, with winter 2015 releases scheduled.
