Last week it was announced that Warner Bros. was moving ahead with a BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER reboot without franchise creator Joss Whedon. Now The Hollywood Reporter writes that despite Whedon's snarky online comments against the project, he was approached and turned it down.

Producer Fran Rubel Kuzui and director Kaz Kuzui, who hold the rights to BUFFY, talked with Whedon about a reboot they were planning with Vertigo Ent. He decided to work on other projects. The Kuzuis then hired Whit Anderson to pen a script, which attracted Atlas Ent. The project then went to Fox, who distributed the original BUFFY feature, but they passed and Warners moved in.
