Spyglass Entertainment has hired Juan Jose Campanella, hot off his Oscar win for Best Foreign Language Film, to direct an adaptation of the children's fantasy HECK, reports HEAT VISION.
Written by Dale E. Basye and illustrated by Bob Dob, the story follows good-two-shoes Milton Fauster and his criminal sister after they have died in a freak accident and are sent to a reform school called Heck. At the school, Lizzie Borden is the home ec teacher and Richard Nixon is the ethics teacher. Milton befriends Virgil, a boy with a map to get out of Heck. This film will be based on the first book in the series, HECK: WHERE THE BAD KIDS GO.
Other books include RAPACIA: THE SECOND CIRCLE OF HECK and BLIMPO: THE THIRD CIRCLE OF HECK.
Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jonathan Glickman of Spyglass are the producers. Spyglass's VP of production, Cassidy Lange, will shepherd.
Spyglass is looking for a writer who will be supervied by Campanella.
