WATCH: Pixar’s New ‘Onward’ Trailer is Not ‘Half Bad’

Never has referring to someone as ‘all legs’ been more appropriate, as elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot use magic to conjure up part of their departed father in the new animated comedy adventure coming March 6, 2020.

And you thought things were tough with your last “bad hair day”… imagine having a “bad missing the top half of your body” day! Well, in the new trailer for Disney and Pixar’s upcoming animated comedy, Onward, elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt, better known as Spidey and The Star-Lord for all you Marvel-ettes), we finally get to see what the boys and their tricked-out, fairly beat-up old van are up to.

Gifted with a magical Wizard staff and “visitation spell” how-to on his 16th birthday, Ian, after less than subtle prodding from Barley, attempts the seemingly impossible: conjure up their long-departed father, whom Ian has never met. But… he can only return for a single day. Since this is an animated comedy, as you can imagine, things don’t quite go as planned. Actually, they go about half as planned.

In a race against time, the brothers, who are “missing” their father in a most unique way, seek an ancient map from the Manticore—once a fearless warrior whose tavern served as a waystation for travelers embarking on epic quests. Part lion, part bat and part scorpion, the Manticore has adapted to changing times—but her adventurous spirt still lurks within. Part of that spirit involves breathing fire…

Directed by Dan Scanlon and produced by Kori Rae, the team who gave us Monsters UniversityOnward also features the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the boy’s mom, Laurel, and Octavia Spencer as the Manticore. The film opens in U.S. theaters on March 6, 2020.
