WATCH: Animated ‘Pinocchio and Friends’ Series Coming Late 2021

Check out new trailer for upcoming show from Rainbow Group and Toonz Media Group, who are partnering on CG adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio.’

Rainbow Group, creator of Winx Club and the award-winning 44 Cats, has partnered with Toonz Media Group to produce an original, contemporary children’s series based on Italian author Carlo Collodi’s “The Adventures of Pinocchio.” The fairy tale is getting a new life as a CG animated series (26 x 12’) for kids and is expected to hit the small screen by the end of 2021.

“The new Pinocchio I imagined speaks to children in a light-hearted, educational way and empowers their dreams,” commented Iginio Straffi, Founder and CEO of Rainbow Group. “Families will love this compelling series and kids will find their new TV hero in Pinocchio. We are glad to partner with Toonz, combining the great expertise of both our solid and international teams, which will be indeed an asset of this great production for a worldwide audience.”

“Giving life to a world classic is always a challenge, but at the same time very exciting as well,” added Toonz Media Group CEO P. Jayakumar. “We are happy that Toonz has got a great partner in Rainbow to take up this challenge and deliver Pinocchio as a top-notch series with very high-quality content. I am sure kids across the world will love and enjoy this show.”

Straffi has reimagined the classic story with fresh eyes and a modern twist, transporting the classic character into a modern world complete with smartphones. The series Pinocchio and Friends is filled with adventure, comedy, fun, and educational elements but still captures the timelessness of the original character, Pinocchio.

Pinocchio, an enchanted puppet, lives in today’s world of endless possibilities. He lives alongside his best friends - Grandpa Geppetto, the pirate doll Freeda and the talking cricket. Characters from the original story are joined by new ones. Pinocchio dreams of one day becoming a real boy and closely follows the advice of the fairy with turquoise hair.

Pre-production, post-production, and supervision operations will be carried out at Rainbow Studios in Italy. The animation - from 3D asset creation to final lighting, rendering, and composting - will be done at Toonz’s studios. Toonz will handle distribution rights in the Indian sub-continent, South East Asia, Spain, and Portugal as well as the licensing and merchandising rights in the Indian sub-continent. Rainbow will handle distribution, licensing, and merchandising rights in the rest of the world.
