Warner Bros. Television Group Ups Peter Girardi

Warner Bros. veteran promoted to newly-established position of executive vice president of digital studio Blue Ribbon Content and Warner Bros. Animation, Alternative Programming.

Warner Bros. Television Group has announced the promotion of Creative Executive Peter Girardi to the newly-established position of Executive Vice President of both digital studio Blue Ribbon Content and Warner Bros. Animation, Alternative Programming. In his dual role, Girardi will oversee day-to-day operations at Warner Bros. Television Group’s Blue Ribbon Content (BRC) while also spearheading alternative programming at Warner Bros. Animation.

As Executive Vice President, BRC, Girardi will serve directly under Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, as the number-two executive at the digital production unit. Prior to his promotion, Girardi served as BRC’s Senior Vice President, Creative Affairs, leading the expansion of its programming slate. Girardi will continue to direct the creative affairs team, with responsibility for developing and producing new live-action series for the digital marketplace, as well as animated programs and original content for virtual reality.

In addition, Girardi will now oversee BRC’s physical production and business operations, including business and legal affairs, finance and administration. Andrew Mellett will continue to serve as BRC’s Senior Vice President, Distribution and Strategy, reporting to Girardi.

On Girardi’s promotion, Register said, “Whether working closely with our producers already under deals here at Warner Bros. Television Group or establishing relationships with new creative voices, Peter has been instrumental in quickly ramping up BRC’s development slate over the past two years, and he will now be charged with playing a key role in the Television Group’s efforts to grow BRC’s digital series business further in the future.”

As Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming at Warner Bros. Animation (WBA), Girardi will continue WBA’s efforts to develop non-traditional animated series for television and other platforms, as well as for adult outlets such as Adult Swim.

Girardi’s earlier supervision duties at BRC included the Writers Guild Award- nominated, live-action Now We’re Talking for go90, as well as Beerfest and JoJo Head for CW Seed. Girardi recently developed and oversaw production of the original series Right Now Kapow, the first WBA show produced for Disney XD. He also developed and currently oversees Mike Tyson Mysteries, a comedy starring former boxing champion Mike Tyson which debuts its third season on Adult Swim later this year.

Girardi’s resume makes it clear he has had a great deal of experience working with various intellectual properties across digital platforms. BRC’s animated shows include Vixen and the upcoming Freedom Fighters: The Ray and Constantine for CW Seed, as well as Ellen’s Pet Dish for ellentube.

Girardi joined WBA in 2009 and has been Senior Vice President, Creative Affairs, since 2015. Before joining WBA, Girardi worked as a digital media producer and designer, spending over a decade as Executive Creative director of Funny Garbage, a company he founded to develop interactive experiences for the internet in 1995. He executive produced and served as production designer on the Adult Swim series Minoriteam and Saul of the Mole Men.
