VFX Producer Paul Grimshaw Joins Tippett Studio

Following strong spring commercial releases, Tippett Studio welcomes former Executive Producer of ILM and VP/EP of The Orphanage as EP of Commercials & New Media.

BERKELEY, CA -- Two-time Academy Award-winner Tippett Studio has announced the hire of Paul Grimshaw as Executive Producer of Commercials and New Media. As a former Executive Producer of Industrial Light and Magic’s commercial production division and VP/Executive Producer at The Orphanage, Grimshaw brings to Tippett his extensive experience in advertising and a background in both live action and animation/visual effects production.

With the recent delivery of high-profile content for brands such as Mixi’s Monster Strike and Frito-Lay’s Cheetos Sweetos, Tippett Studio’s commercial pipeline has proven increasingly compelling for commercial work featuring character animation, environments and effects. The addition of Grimshaw is a key step in the studio’s plans to continue to expand its presence in commercial and advertising visual effects.

“As a longtime fan of the studio and its work, I am thrilled to come on board, helping to expand commercials and other short form content, including games cinematics and VR,” Grimshaw says. “The talent pool here is incredible.”

Tippett’s recent commercial collaborations include a multi-spot campaign with advertising agency Pereira O’Dell for the U.S. release of Japanese multi-player social game Monster Strike. The spots, which were helmed by acclaimed commercial director Wayne McClammy, feature comedy superstar Andy Samberg interacting with a ragtag team of monstrous misfits designed and animated by the Tippett team.

Tippett Studio’s expertise in managing and delivering refined conceptual animation made it the perfect partner for Mixi, Japanese social networking service and creator of Monster Strike. Tippett’s implementation of its tried-and-true production strategy to a global pipeline allowed for a truly collaborative experience between client and studio. Monster Strike recently launched across multiple social media platforms, with one spot earning nearly 6 million views in its first week on YouTube.

Before joining as EP, Grimshaw served as Freelance Producer for Tippett on commercials for Advantage II (with Grey Health Group) and Cheetos Sweetos (with Goodby Silverstein & Partners).  Grimshaw’s hiring bolsters Tippett’s ability to provide unparalleled creative partnership to its commercial clients. With its reputation for excellence in visual effects, Tippett offers expertise in categories running the gamut from high end character animation to photorealistic environmental visual effects as well as styling one-offs.

“Paul Grimshaw’s breadth of experience in all manner of TV, advertising, and digital production made him a natural fit,” said Tippett Studio president and CEO Jules Roman in making the announcement. “We are thrilled to have Paul as our Executive Producer for commercials and new media.”

In addition to feature and commercial effects, Tippett Studio offers companion toolkits for use across social media, app and broadcast platforms along with both large and small-scale print media, aiding clients in the assembly of comprehensive and consistent branding campaigns. The studio also provides commercial clients the option of soup-to-nuts project management including scripting, blocking, storyboarding, on-set visual effects supervision, motion capture, directorial services, and color grading.

When asked for comment, company founder and creative supervisor Phil Tippett quipped, “Oh great. Another Brit.”
