CafeFX co-founder Jeff Barnes partners with Portland-based digital production and animation studio Bent Image Lab to oversee the company’s new Digital Media Group.
Portland, OR -- Digital production and animation studio Bent Image Lab announced that Visual Effects Executive Jeff Barnes, co-founder of CafeFX, The Syndicate and past Digital Domain VP, has partnered with the company to oversee Bent’s new Digital Media Group. In his role, Barnes will work with the Bent team to develop creative messaging for alternative medium portals such as cell phones, pads, touch screens and special venue experiences implementing AR, pixel mapping and other developing new technologies. He will also provide management and business development support for the company’s growing visual effects division.
“It is a whole new world of opportunity for unique ways of telling stories and promoting products through alternative viewing spaces. I have known the team at Bent for years and have always been impressed with their high level of creativity and unique approaches to production. They have amazing talent here and we will continually strive to set a new level in the industry,” explained Barnes.
Bent is most notable for its ability to innovate art and technology. Bent began as a world-class stop motion, mixed media and CGI creator and will be expanding its efforts with the launch of the new media division. CEO Ray Di Carlo added, “We are thrilled to have Jeff on board. His experience and reputation in the visual effects space is among the highest in the industry. He will be invaluable to our studio for both the new venture and our growing visual effects efforts."
Barnes co-founded The Computer Café Group in 1993 and oversaw the operations of its feature film visual effects division, CafeFX, and commercial studio, The Syndicate. He also provided management support and development input for Sententia Entertainment, the company’s feature film production division. He most recently held the post as VP/GM with the Digital Domain Media Group.
Barnes’ client list includes: Warner Brothers, Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures, FOX, AT&T, McDonalds, Ford, ESPN, NBC, HBO and Disney. Barnes’ feature credits span more than 85 films including; Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Iron Man, Evan Almighty, Spider-Man 3, Pan’s Labyrinth and Sin City. Barnes also holds the past honor of Chairman and Vice Chair of the Visual Effects Society.
