VanArts Offers New Program in Game Art & Design

Starting February 2003, VanArts (Vancouver Institute of Media Arts) will launch a new full-time diploma and certificate program in Game Art & Design. Worldwide, the video game industry is worth an estimated $40 billion, out-grossing other traditional forms of entertainment including film and music. Students start out the 48-week diploma program by learning the basic principles of Classical Animation. Maya and 3D Studio Max are the two 3D software packages taught in the program, focusing on animation, modeling, texturing, and lighting in a real time game engine. By developing skills in all of these areas, along with life drawing and concept art, students complete the program ready to make games happen!

VanArts, an accredited and private post-secondary institute located in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, has gained a worldwide reputation since 1996 for its high standards in classical and computer animation training. "Our institute cant ignore the statistics which show the strength of the gaming industry. We want our grads to be well positioned for this market and to do this, we need to be flexible and adapt to changes in industry" says VanArts President Alan Phillips.
