Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Cornish will each helm one of the untitled movies; a separate, live-action ‘LEGO Ninjago’ feature will be penned by brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman.
As part of an ongoing partnership, Universal Pictures and The LEGO Group will team once again for a trio of untitled live-action films. The recently announced live-action LEGO Ninjago feature will be separate from the three films, and is set to be penned by brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman (Star Trek: Prodigy, Trollhunters franchise).
Jake Kasdan (Jumanji reboots, Red One), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman franchise), and Joe Cornish (Ant-Man, Attack the Block) will each helm a film, although all plot details are under wraps.
Kasdan directs from a script by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul (The D Train, The Grinder) based on an original idea and previous draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows (The Pickup, Animal Friends). Kasdan will produce with Melvin Mar for Detective Agency.
Jenkins directs from a script she co-wrote with Geoff Johns (Wonder Woman 1984, TV’s The Flash), and produces via her Wicious Pictures. Finally, Cornish will direct and rewrite the screenplay from a draft by Heather Anne Campbell (Rick & Morty, One Punch Man), based on a treatment by Simon Rich (Man Seeking Woman, Miracle Workers).
Other collaborations between Universal and LEGO include their LEGO Jurassic World and LEGO Jurassic Park projects, which range from brick sets to games, animated specials, and a miniseries. Universal’s Focus Features also teamed with the LEGO Group for Pharrell William’s biopic Piece by Piece.
The LEGO Group’s Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians will produce all three projects, while Universal’s EVP Production Development Matt Reilly and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee.
