Two Towers Tops MTV Movie Awards

Not only did THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS nab best movie at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards, held May 31, 2003 at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium, but Peter Jackson's second installment of the blockbuster Tolkien trilogy took three more prestigious awards, including best virtual performance by Gollum. TWO TOWERS also earned best action sequence for the Battle of Helms Deep, deepening WETA Digital's enormous stature among leading VFX studios, as well as best on-screen team (Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and Gollum.

Not surprisingly, the best fight award went to ILM's splendid work on Yoda vs. Christopher Lee in STAR WARS: EPISODE II-ATTACK OF THE CLONES.

Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst of SPIDER-MAN earned the best kiss award, while Dunst also took home best female performance. Eminem of 8 MILE won twice for best male and breakthrough performances. Daveigh Chase of THE RING won best villain kudos. Jennifer Garner of DAREDEVIL collected the breakthrough female prize and Mike Myers of AUSTIN POWERS IN GOLDMEMBER won for best comedic performance.

The telecast of the kudofest airs well airs June 5, 2003, with as opening and closing segments for the awards show animated by Mainframe Entertainment. Golum and Yoda appear virtually to accept their awards.
