TouchAnimator Now Available for Android

Animation and software developer Digital Sorcery releases 3D character animation tool TouchAnimator for Android.

Animation and software development company Digital Sorcery, specializing in games and software for mobile devices, has released 3D character animation tool TouchAnimator for Android. First released for iPad in November, TouchAnimator is a 3D character animation program that uses the touch interface of iPad and Android tablets to intuitively pose and animate pre-rigged characters.

The app enables users to create simple key frame animations for a set of pre-rigged characters by manipulating FK and IK controls or setting animation paths for joints. Characters include a cartoon figure, some standard bipeds, a dragon, and an armored knight. Animations can also be manipulated via the dopesheet, though this is described in the tutorial, below, as “experimental.”

Currently, the only means of getting data out of the app is via a Blender plug-in, which means copying text data within the app, emailing it to yourself, then pasting it into the plug-in. Exporters for other 3D packages are in development.

TouchAnimator is available now from the App Store and in Google Play, priced at $4.99. You’ll need an iPad running iOS 4.3 or Android tablet running 2.0.1+.
