Toon Boom Launches ‘Career Camps’ With Toronto Event

Event intended to help animators keep their skills up to date and ensure their future in the industry.

MONTREAL -- Toon Boom Animation is launching a series of free “Career Camps” aimed at providing professional animators of all levels, including freelancers, with future-proofed steps, strategies and specialized skills needed to increase their earnings and opportunities today -- and safeguard their employability for tomorrow.

The inaugural edition will be held Nov. 11-12 in Toronto at Corus Quay, with more Animation Career Camps planned for the coming months in key cities and markets around the world. Graphics on the company’s site list events in Los Angeles Feb. 24-25 and Vancouver March 17-18.

“Through our working relationship with leading studios, Toon Boom has become an expert in what animation companies need to build and optimize their production pipelines,” says Francois Lalonde. “Our Animation Career Camps empower animators with the knowledge of how to future-proof their skills, and are a way for us to bridge the gap between those seeking talent and those who have it — for years to come.”

With subscription streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime creating massive demand for original animated content, there has been a surge in opportunities at all levels of production -- and the competition is fierce. In order to get hired, studios are demanding animators be specialized. Across training sessions, networking and hands-on labs, Toon Boom staff and experts from the local animation scene will take attendees through the steps to specialize their skills in the most in-demand areas such as rigging, compositing and cut-out.

Additionally, attendees will learn the best tips and tricks for using Harmony, the world’s most ubiquitous 2D animation software, from the people who built it, while networking with their peers and industry influencers. After the event, they can continue their specialization education via Toon Boom’s free Learn Portal online resource.
