Universal Pictures has snatched the U.S. rights to TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDER, SPY, reports Deadline.com. LET THE RIGHT ONE IN director Tomas Alfredson is helming the adaptation of John La Carre's novel. The film stars Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong and Ciaran Hinds.

The Cold War story follows a retired spy who is asked to come back and discover the Soviet spy that has infiltrated MI6.

Studiocanal and Working Title are producing with the former holding worldwide rights. Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Robyn Slovo are the producers. Liza Chasin, Le Carre, Peter Morgan, Douglas Urbanski and Debra Hayward are the exec producers. Bridget O'Connor and Peter Straughan adapted the script.

Universal hopes to release the film in November or December.
