Teradici Releases PCoIP Ultra Auto-Offload 2020.10 Cloud Access Software

New feature optimizes network efficiency, overcoming bandwidth or latency constraints for employees working from home or other remote locations.

BURNABY, CANADA – Teradici has announced the latest software release, 2020.10, includes the launch of PCoIP Ultra Auto-Offload, a new feature to help optimize the performance of remote desktops and maintain image fidelity for users working with graphics-intensive and motion-intensive content from home networks or other remote locations facing bandwidth or latency constraints. The new feature saves up to 80 percent in bandwidth consumption and 50 percent in CPU resources when compared to the standard PCoIP CPU Offload feature that was available in previous software releases.

Auto-Offload, now built into the PCoIP Ultra feature set in Cloud Access Software, dynamically switches between CPU and GPU resources to best deliver whatever content is on screen in a given moment, whether video, static images or text. This enhanced capability makes more efficient use of the network bandwidth to ensure an artist or designer is seeing the most important display features on the desktop in that moment in the most faithful way. This means that motion is smooth during video playback, and that colors, lines and texture details are highly accurate when performing more intricate tasks such as editing, compositing, texturing, or color correction.

“In a recent survey we did with IT professionals, many cited home network issues to be a challenge in supporting their employee base in working from home,” commented Ian Main, Technical Marketing Principal for Teradici. “Customer demand was a key reason we accelerated the development of Auto-Offload, leveraging NVIDIA RTX, and our internal testing shows that its use can significantly improve bandwidth usage and the user experience - in some cases saving up to 80 percent of the bandwidth required. We expect this to particularly benefit teams who work with demanding graphics workloads from remote locations, as many of our customers have indicated they will continue to do for the foreseeable future.”

The accelerated development of PCoIP Ultra Auto-Offload was driven in part by requests from customers for assistance in optimizing network efficiency for employees accessing their desktops from home. The automation of the new feature saves considerable time and effort for IT teams supporting remote workforces as well, by eliminating the need to customize the desktop configuration to optimize performance for each artist’s role.

“In shifting our artists home, we have found that the need to be as efficient as possible with our demands of home networks is key to maintaining the productivity of our team,” explained Daire Byrne, Global Head of Systems for DNEG. “The Teradici team listened to our experience and responded to address our issues quickly, and the Auto-Offload feature has helped considerably in ensuring our artists can focus on their work from home without the distractions that slower network connections can sometimes insert into their workflows, and reducing the effort required by our IT team in supporting them.”
