Tehran Intl. Animation Festival Winners Announced

The award winners of the 4th Tehran International Animation Festival were announced at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) on March 10, 2005, reports MEHR NEWS.

In the Iranian competition section, first prize went to Moin Samadis STOP, I AM TAKING OFF, second prize to Vahid Nasirians THE HOLE and third prize to Mahbod Bazr-Afshans ESCAPE. The special jury award went to IRANIAN CHAT, directed by Amir Saharkhiz.

Babak Nazaris THERE WAS A MOON AND A FOX garnered the best animation film for children prize, second prize in this category went to COHESION co-produced by Akbar Sadeqi and Alireza Kavian-Rad, and third prize to PLATO by Faez Alidusti.

The best television animation award went to HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU by Zohal Razavi and THE BEACH TUNA by Alireza Golpaygani and Faez Alidusti was named the best TV commercial.

The best sound effects award went to Sam Kashefi and Behzad Tavakolis THOUSAND-YEAR-OLD MAN.

International Association of Animation Film (ASIFA) granted its plaque of honor to Nasrin Mirshab for her great role in promoting Iranian animation films throughout the world. ASIFAs plaque of honor was awarded to Mohammadreza Karimi Saremi for his lifelong activities in the industry of animation.

In the international section, Oscar-nominated BIRTHDAY BOY by Sejung Park of Australia won first prize, JOURNEY TO MARS by Juan Pablo Zamarella of Argentina won second prize, and POTTER by Dmitry Vlasov of Uzbekistan won third prize.

The 4th Tehran International Animation Festival was held at IIDCYA from March 6 to 10. A total of 446 Iranian and foreign animation films from 62 countries were screened in the international and Iranian sections of the festival.

The jury members of the Iranian section included Ebrahim Foruzesh, Vajihollah Moqaddam, Abdollah Alimorad, Saeid Tavakolian, and Fahimeh Sorkhabi, and jury members from Poland, Britain and France judged the international section.
