Technicolor Animation Productions Announces ‘Sly Cooper’ Animated Series

The new CG series is based on the best-selling PlayStation game franchise of the same name, representing a collaboration among Technicolor, Sony Interactive Entertainment and investment group PGS, and will be distributed for audiences around the world.

Paris-based Technicolor Animation Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) have joined forces to produce a computer generated, animated Sly Cooper series to audiences around the world.

Hong Kong-based, privately-owned investment group PGS will manage licensing and global distribution and merchandising rights.

The series is based on the best-selling PlayStation video game series introduced to the market in 2002, which has sold millions of copies globally and spanned four editions across generations of PlayStation.

Sly Cooper follows the adventures of the irresistibly charismatic raccoon, a modern-day Robin Hood who restores justice to his city one theft at a time. Sly is aided by his two best friends, a muscular hippo named Murray and a brainy turtle named Bentley. Hot on Sly’s trail is Inspector Carmelita Fox, a morally upright cop with an unfortunate crush on the charming bandit, as well as a band of villains, each one more strange and colorful than the last. The series will mix humor, action, and a remarkable cast of characters.

“As a big fan of the Sly Cooper franchise, we are thrilled to embark on this new adventure with PlayStation,” said Sandrine Nguyen, Managing Director, Technicolor Animation Productions. “Sly Cooper’s colorful characters and rich storylines are a perfect fit for television. There is no doubt that teenagers will be happy to rediscover their beloved game as a series, while younger kids will be charmed by the debonair raccoon and his exciting universe.”

“Capturing the hearts of gamers everywhere when it debuted on PlayStation 2, 15 years ago, Sly Cooper is one of PlayStation’s most iconic franchises,” said Asad Qizilbash, Senior Director, First Party Games Marketing. “We are thrilled to be working with Technicolor Animation and PGS to bring Sly and the gang to life on the small screen for a whole new generation of fans to enjoy.”

“We are excited to join forces with PlayStation and Technicolor to deliver to kids around the world a host of new engagement experiences for Sly Cooper, from new TV programming to consumer products,” added Guillaume Soutter, President of PGS HK.

Headed by Sandrine Nguyen and Boris Hertzog, Technicolor Animation Productions is the production arm of Technicolor Animation and Games, which has brought fan favorite characters to screens across the globe. Technicolor’s next series is Monchhichi, a 52 x 11’ series based on the iconic and beloved little doll who has been winning fans for generations, co-produced with TF1 in collaboration with Sekiguchi.
