Teaser Poster Revealed for DCU’s ‘Blue Beetle’ Feature

The beautiful glowing metallic scarab tells fans the upcoming film will premiere 2023 despite a giant lack of updates, such as the plot.

The first Latino superhero movie, Blue Beetle, has finally gotten a (small, insect-sized) update. A teaser poster was revealed during a panel at the Comic Con-Experience 2022 in Brazil, which features a beautiful glowing metallic scarab, assuring viewers the film will premiere in 2023 despite a giant lack of updates. Like the plot.

DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn also took to Twitter to tease the film:

While the interesting insectoid originally debuted as a Fox Comics character in 1939, the upcoming film is based upon the 2006 version of the superhero, a Mexican American teenager named Jaime Reyes. According to Variety, “His powers come from a mysterious scarab that binds to Reyes’ spine and provides him with a powerful suit of blue alien armor that can also equip him with bespoke weapons and wings.” In a major win for the Latinx community, a large portion of the film will be in Spanish with subtitles.

Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) stars as the titular hero alongside Susan Sarandon, Harvey Guillen, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Belissa Escobedo, Bruna Marquezin, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo. Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings, Nuevo Rico) will direct Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer’s (Miss Bala) script. No word yet on who will handle the superpowered VFX.

Blue Beetle premieres in theaters 2023.
