On Monday, June 27, The U.S. Supreme Court shot down California's proposed ban on the rental or sale of violent videogames to minors in a 7-2 decision, writes The Hollywood Reporter. The ruling upholds a previous ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Sacramento. The court believed the gaming industry's voluntary ratings system was enough to protect children and inform parents about the content of videogames. The ban, which had never went into affect, would have levied fines of as much as $1,000 to stores that sold or rented videogames to minors.
