Press Release from StorySmyth Ventures Ltd

StorySmyth Ventures Ltd, the producers of the StorySmyth Tales range of digital mobile children’s stories, has today launched a range of titles featuring children’s books from Oxford University Press (OUP).

StorySmyth Tales is a collection of illustrated children’s story books brought to life for new hand-held media devices such as the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The tales are told by a mystical 3D CGI storyteller, the StorySmyth, who lives in a fairytale cottage surrounded by his collection of children’s story books. Each day the StorySmyth welcomes his audience for story time and delves into his magical ‘book of all books’ to choose a story for the day.

StorySmyth Ventures are delighted to have secured a license with OUP on a range of children’s illustrated book titles from Caroline Jayne Church and others: “It’s very exciting to see my work displayed in this way – enabling young children to enjoy my stories digitally as well as on the printed page”, commented Caroline.

“It is a genuine privilege to be working with such great titles and with such a prestigious and internationally regarded publisher”, said StorySmyth creator Nick Underwood. “We are treating these books with the very greatest respect and we’re certain that the end result will both enhance and promote their wonderful stories and beautiful illustrations. In many ways, what we’re providing is a completely new window for the books we feature, and this will hopefully bring them and their creators to the attention of a whole new audience.”

“Partnering with StorySmyth brings a fantastic opportunity to present our award-winning story books on cutting edge technologies”, said David Bowers, OUP’s Vice President of Global Business Development. “We are on a mission to disseminate the highest quality educational content for kids. This collaboration reflects such dedication by embracing the very latest in digital distribution.”

The StorySmyth Tales range is initially available on the iTunes platform for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, but there are plans to bring the collection to other hand-held media devices, such as Nintendo DS, and to make them available within the recently launched Mac App Store as the range expands.
