Laura Gordon and Tim Griffin also join previously announced star Henry Cavill and newcomer Daniel Quinn Toye; franchise follows 5 young pilots that join together to form a mega-robot.
Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction, Atlas), Rita Ora (Detective Pikachu, Descendants: The Rise of Red), and John Kim (Cruel Intentions, The Librarians) are set to star in the upcoming live action feature adaptation Voltron, reports THR. Laura Gordon (Late Night with the Devil) and Tim Griffin (Grey’s Anatomy) have reportedly also joined the cast. The trio joins previously announced star Henry Cavill and newcomer Daniel Quinn Toye. Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice) will direct from a script co-written with Ellen Shanman.
Voltron is based on the sci-fi anime series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV, which were dubbed and edited into Voltron: Defender of the Universe in the mid-1980s. DreamWorks Animation Television also created Voltron Legendary Defender, which ran for 8 seasons on Netflix. The franchise follows the Robot Lions, five young pilots that join together to form the mega-robot Voltron.
Thurber shared a video message during VoltCon in October, stating, “I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron. In this film, we’re going to be introducing an entirely new generation of pilots. We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but we’re going to stay true to […] those iconic elements that you love, that I love.”
Todd Lieberman produces for Hidden Pictures, alongside Bob Koplar for World Events Productions, David Hoberman for Hobie Films, and Thurber.
