Star Wars Episode II Gets A Large Format Update

How will Jar Jar look when he is 8 stories tall? This question will be answered on November 1, 2002, when a large-format version of STAR WARS: EPISODE II "ATTACK OF THE CLONES" debuts in IMAX theatres in the United States and Canada. The film will be digitally re-mastered using the proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology, which allows live-action motion pictures to be inexpensively converted into the 15/70 format for presentation on the giant IMAX screen, while maintaining and even enhancing the conventional image resolution. EPISODE II marks the first time IMAX has re-mastered a movie that was digitally captured and created. The first 35mm live-action film to be converted using this technology is Ron Howard's 1995 Academy Award-winning drama APOLLO 13. The IMAX version of APOLLO 13 is scheduled to premiere in selected theaters on September 20, 2002. APOLLO 13 should end its run just in time for the premiere of EPISODE II. During the holiday season, Disney will release two animated features in large format. TREASURE PLANET will get a simultaneous 35mm and 70mm release on November 27, 2002, and THE LION KING is set to debut in large format on December 25, 2002.
