In celebration of the 5th annual ‘Star Trek Day,’ franchise launches global campaign aimed at giving back; pop-up fan activations set for Chicago, Vancouver, and Berlin and select ‘Star Trek’ episodes stream free September 7-13 across Paramount+ platforms.
In celebration of “Star Trek Day,” keepers of the Star Trek franchise announced the global campaign “Take the Chair, Make an Impact,” and its contribution to Code.org, DoSomething.org, and Outright International. Through this worldwide social activation, the campaign encourages fans to embrace an optimistic vision of a brighter future and give back to the inclusive community.
Star Trek debuted on television September 8, 1966, and along with the show’s creator Gene Roddenberry, introduced audiences to a world that championed diversity, inclusion, acceptance, and hope. 58 years later, Star Trek commemorates this day and the franchise’s legacy with the fifth annual “Star Trek Day,” providing fans a way to enjoy and celebrate all things Star Trek.
This year, Star Trek has partnered with three worldwide nonprofits that embody the values of the franchise, including Code.org, giving every K-12 student a chance to learn computer science; DoSomething.org, helping young people learn to change the world; and Outright International, advocating for LGBTIQ inclusion and equality globally.
The “Take the Chair” campaign invites fans to set a course for the future as if in the iconic U.S.S. Enterprise captain’s chair. Fans worldwide can engage through a digital experience on StarTrek.com with 25% of September U.S. product sales from select items on the official “Star Trek” benefiting these three nonprofits.
Various pop-up events will let fans celebrate “Star Trek Day,” including the Taste of Chicago located in Chicago, Ill. Throughout the weekend of September 6 the event will feature the U.S.S. Enterprise captain’s chair. Additional September 8 activations in Berlin, Germany, at the ALEXA Mall and in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the Richmond Centre, will feature a modern architectural interpretation of the captain’s chair crafted from sustainable materials. At all activations, fans can “Take the Chair,” capture a photo, obtain a personalized mission, and receive a limited-edition enamel pin.
