Steven Spielberg is taking on the Halo videogame franchise with a new live-action series, according to a report by Variety.

Microsoft will adapt its blockbuster Halo videogame franchise as a premium live-action series exclusively for Xbox Live. Steven Spielberg will produce the series with game developer 343 Studios.

The new series, and Spielberg’s involvement, was announced during the launch of the Xbox One videogame console on Tuesday from the Xbox campus, in Redmond, Washington. The Xbox One, out this fall, replaces the Xbox 360.

The new series comes from Nancy Tellem, who heads up Xbox Entertainment Studios.

Halo already has been adapted into a live-action series before; Halo Forward Unto Dawn had its debut as a web series on that began on Machinima, timed with the launch of last year’s Halo 4 title.
