Starz has announced it will produce a second season of SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Starz has brought in casting directors to find a replacement for series lead Andy Whitfield, who is battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Stephen Amell (TV's HEARTLAND), Aiden Turner (TV's ALL MY CHILDREN) and Liam McIntyre (THE PACIFIC) are rumored to be in the running. Production is expected to start in the spring and the new season will hit the cable net in 2012. The prequel series, GODS OF THE ARENA, launches on Jan. 21 at 10 pm.
