Sony is in final talks to snatch up the feature film rights to Mattel's HE-MAN, reports VARIETY. Escape Artists (TAKING OF PELHAM 123, KNOWING) will be overseeing the project.
Recently, Joel Silver was developing the property at Warner Bros., but Mattel and WB parted ways when they couldn't come together on a cohesive direction.
Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will now develop the project from the ground up for Columbia.
John Stevenson (KUNG FU PANDA) was attached to direct at Warner Bros. and Justin Marks and Evan Daugherty had written a script, which is still owned by Warners. So now new screenwriters will have to brought in to add their take on the tale of Prince Adam's transformation into He-Man and battles with Skeletor.
