Soho Square Productions Appoints Emily Whinnett

Emily Whinnett joins Soho Square Productions as Director of Programmes.

Soho Square Productions, part of Soho Square Studios Group, announced the appointment of Emily Whinnett, who joins the new production company as Director of Programmes. Whinnett will report into Kim Goody and Alan Coates, co-founders.

Emily Whinnett has over 13 years experience working in the children’s television industry, and joins Soho Square Productions following a successful and acclaimed career that has resulted in numerous awards and award nominations including the Royal Television Awards, BAFTA, Annecy Awards, Broadcast Awards and the British Animation Awards.

Whinnett is best known for her eight years spent as Director of Production and Development at Chapman Entertainment, where she led the development, production and launch of the company’s four hit pre-school shows; Fifi and the Flowertots, Roary the Racing Car, Little Charley Bear and Raa Raa the Noisy Lion. Emily also produced ‘Peter Kay’s Animated All Star Band, The Official BBC Children in Need Medley’ in 2009; a song recorded at Soho Square Studios, with musical direction by Goody and Coates. It reached number 1 in the UK charts and raised over £500,000 for the BBC charity.

Emily then became Head of Development for Belfast based, Sixteen South (Lily’s Driftwood Bay), where she was responsible for IP development including their new series, Claude. Now at Soho Square Productions, Emily will oversee production and IP development on all shows from children’s CG animation and live action to documentaries and drama.

“We are excited about the new opportunities and depth of knowledge that Emily brings to our company. We first experienced her true leadership qualities when working alongside her during the production of the BBC Children in Need Medley. She is one of the best children’s creatives in the industry, and we have a lot of confidence in her,” said Kim Goody. “Emily is a ray of sunshine within the team. She is a gentle person who knows how to get the best out of everyone, but tough when she needs to be. This is a big year for us and Emily’s experience in production and development will ensure that she plays a vital role in our success moving forward. We feel privileged to have her on board as Director of Programmes at Soho Square Productions.”
