Warner Bros. will bring Will Smith and Francis Lawrence back for I AM LEGEND -- in prequel form, per VARIETY.
As Smith's character, Robert Neville, died in the first film, the second film will go back to the final days in New York before the man-made virus wiped out all humanity in the city except Neville. Lawrence will again direct from a script by D.B. Weiss, based on an outline he created by Smith, producer Akiva Goldsman and producer James Lassiter, Smith's partner at Overbrook Ent.
I AM LEGEND grossed $584 million worldwide for the studio. Weiss is currently working on THE GAME, an adaptation of Neil Strauss' book.
