'Slugterra' Begins Global Launch

Nerd Corps Entertainment ready to slug it out with original new property.

Vancouver, Canada --

Nerd Corps Entertainment announced that Slugterra, its newest global kids property, is set to rollout this fall with the launch of the animated television series. Disney XD is the global television partner for the show, which premiered in Canada on September 8 at 2 p.m. EST and will hit US airwaves on October 15 at 3:30 p.m. EST. The series, which targets boys ages 6 to 11, is the kick-start to a full property rollout from Nerd Corps, which includes a comprehensive show site at www.Slugterra.com, an online flash adventure game and iPhone and iPad apps based on the series. A toy line from Jakks Pacific will hit shelves in early spring 2013, and several key licensees are in place for consumer product launches in 2013 and beyond.

“Disney XD is the perfect placement and partner for a property like Slugterra,” said Ken Faier, el Presidente and head of TV sales at Nerd Corps. “They are the new growth leader for kids in this age group, and the channel supports a full international rollout for the brand. We’re very excited to see the series air as a strip in the US, and hit so many key markets so quickly with additional free TV stations starting to come on board for launches through 2013 and beyond.”

Slugterra is full of all the awesome things that boys i

n this age group love: blasters, power-ups, transformation, dueling, hanging with friends and exploring a real, secret world,” said Asaph Fipke, Supreme Commander at Nerd Corps, and series creator. “Our approach has been to tell the Slugterra story through visually stunning 3D animation, and then continue to tell new parts of that story across multiple platforms.”

Following the North American series premieres, Disney will launch the show around the world through 2013. Nerd Corps is continuing to lock down agents in key territories, as well as terrestrial broadcast, and will announce more deals through the fall.  Additionally, full episodes will be showcased at the upcoming MIPJunior in Cannes, France.

To support the series rollout, Nerd Corps Interactive has launched www.Slugterra.com, a robust fan site featuring the online adventure platformer game, Battle for Slugterra.  Set in the same fun and fantastical world as the television series, young Eli Shane must traverse the 99 known caverns of Slugterra while collecting powerful slugs, solving puzzles and battling a horde of nefarious enemies along the way. The game will launch a series of “caverns” throughout 2012 and beyond, each offering 10 levels with cool new slugs and power ups to collect. Players can build their slugslinger ranking in the world as they progress through the game, and eventually take on leaderboard challenges.

Aspiring slugslingers will also be able to find the official Slug Arsenal on www.Slugterra.com this fall. This handy reference tool for die-hard fans provides all of the stats and information about individual slugs, how to use them and where to find them underground—plus details on all of the cool blasters, gear and mechabeasts from the show. Additionally, Nerd Corps Interactive is in development on a soon-to-be announced action game for the iPhone and iPad.

Slugslingers everywhere can follow the show on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Slugterra and YouTube at www.YouTube.com/Slugterra.
