This summer, families are invited to discover the fantastical world of ancient forests through the enchanting, captivating adventure of Mavka, a guardian and soul of the forest, in the new 3DCG animated feature Mavka: The Forest Song. Shout! Kids, in collaboration with Animagrad Animation Studio and Film.UA Group, has announced Mavka: The Forest Song will be available to North American movie audiences August 15 for the first time on DVD and digital download.
The film unfolds in a universe that blends ancient Slavic traditions and folklore with a modern narrative that showcases Ukrainian culture, values, designs, and music. It is based on Ukranian poet Lesya Ukrainka’s fairytale drama “The Forest Song” and Slavic mythology, and centers on Mavka, a Soul of the Forest, and its warden. When Mavka falls in love with the talented young musician Lukas, she must face the impossible choice between love and her duty as guardian to the Heart of the Forest.
Oleg Malamuzh and Sasha Ruban directed the English-language film. The voice cast includes Laurie Hymes (Lupin III: The First); Eddy Lee (Your Name); Sarah Natochenny (Pokemon Master Journeys); Tom Wayland (Pokemon); Marc Thompson (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles); Scottie Ray (Zane Truesdale); HD Quinn (A Night Before Christmas); Nikki Thomas (Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous); Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld (Pokemon); and Mike Pollock (A Cat in Paris).
Poised to entertain kids, families, and animation collectors, Mavka: The Forest Song is available for pre-order now at ShoutFactory.com and will be available in stores, other fine retailers, and digital entertainment platforms.
Mavka: The Forest Song first drew international attention at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. It gained further acclaim as the only Ukrainian project selected for pitching at Cartoon Movie 2017 in Bordeaux. The project has since grown into the multi-platform IP Mavka Universe.
