See How Imaginary Forces Created Emmy-Nominated Titles for ‘Jessica Jones,’ ‘Vinyl’

Creative studio IF unveils a sneak peek into the behind-the-scenes process for creating its Emmy-nominated title sequences for Marvel’s ‘Jessica Jones’ and HBO’s ‘Vinyl.’

As voting opens up this week for the 2017 Emmy race, Imaginary Forces has unveiled a sneak peek into the behind-the-scenes process for creating its title sequences for Marvel’s Jessica Jones and HBO’s Vinyl, both of which have been nominated for Outstanding Title Design.

In the main titles for Marvel's Jessica Jones, IF creative director Michelle Dougherty and team were tasked to create a heightened, stylized world within the world of this gritty Netflix series. Using a live-action plate of paint and incorporating it onto photographs and other filmed elements, the director created a moody, painterly rendition of Jessica Jones’ New York City, where we see darkness at every turn.

See what elements were created, how moving images were treated, and some of the original pitch elements for the main title sequence of HBO's Vinyl.
